El tsonga (xitsonga) es una lengua bantú hablada por unos 12 millones de personas en Sudáfrica, Mozambique (donde se le llama changana), Zimbabue y Esuatini. Es una de las 12 lenguas oficiales de Sudáfrica, con la mayor concentración de hablantes en Limpopo y Mpumalanga. El xichangana (Mozambique) y el xironga (en torno a Maputo) se tratan a veces como lenguas distintas y a veces como variedades del tsonga.
El xitsonga usa unas 18 clases nominales cuyos prefijos rigen la concordancia de toda la oración; el propio prefijo de la lengua, xi-, marca el idioma como un sustantivo de clase 7.
