El hebreo moderno es categoría III del FSI. El alfabeto de 22 letras se escribe de derecha a izquierda y la mayoría de los textos cotidianos omiten las vocales (nikud). La gramática se basa en raíces de tres consonantes: de k-t-v salen כתב «escribió», כותב «escribe», מכתב «carta» y כתבה «artículo». Una vez interiorizas el sistema de raíces y patrones, el vocabulario crece muy rápido, y la traducción al tocar de LingoBear te acompaña.
El hebreo moderno es fruto de una resurrección extraordinaria: tras siglos siendo sobre todo una lengua litúrgica y literaria, se revivió como lengua hablada a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, en buena parte gracias a Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. Hoy es la lengua oficial de Israel, con unos 9 millones de hablantes y una prensa, un cine y una música pop muy vivos.
