El portugués brasileño (~210 millones de hablantes) y el europeo (~10 millones) comparten la misma gramática y el vocabulario básico, pero se diferencian en la pronunciación, en parte de la ortografía y en el uso. Brasil usa «você» para «tú», mientras que Portugal usa «tu» con sus terminaciones; Brasil coloca los pronombres antes del verbo (me ajuda) y Portugal después con guion (ajuda-me). LingoBear puede generar textos en cualquiera de las dos variantes.
Es de los idiomas más accesibles para un hispanohablante por su enorme parecido léxico (categoría I del FSI).
