El nuosu (también llamado yi septentrional o yi de Sichuán) es la lengua loloish más hablada dentro de la familia sino-tibetana, usada por unos 2 millones de personas del pueblo yi en la prefectura autónoma yi de Liangshan, en el suroeste de Sichuán (China). Es una de las seis grandes lenguas yi, que en conjunto suman más de 4 millones de hablantes en China, Vietnam, Laos, Tailandia y Myanmar.
La escritura yi tradicional —un sistema logográfico con miles de caracteres— se simplificó en 1974 y se estandarizó oficialmente en 1980 en un silabario moderno de 819 sílabas (cada una un carácter único), con diacríticos para uno de los cuatro tonos. Hoy el nuosu se escribe normalmente de izquierda a derecha en este silabario, aunque los textos históricos y rituales siguen usando las formas logográficas antiguas.
