El corso (Corsu) es una lengua italorromance descendiente del toscano medieval y sigue muy emparentada con el italiano estándar, sobre todo en el norte de la isla, con una inteligibilidad mutua altísima. Para un hispanohablante, al ser romance, gran parte del vocabulario resulta reconocible. La variedad sartenesa del sur tiende un puente entre el corso y el dialecto galurés del norte de Cerdeña.
El corso es una lengua polinómica: se aceptan varias normas escritas regionales (cismuntincu en el norte y pumuntincu en el sur) una al lado de la otra, en lugar de un único «corso estándar». La Académie corse y los programas de la Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli enseñan ambas. LingoBear puede generar textos en cualquiera de las dos normas.
