El te reo maorí es una lengua polinesia oriental de Nueva Zelanda, oficial desde la Ley de la Lengua Maorí de 1987 y hoy en plena revitalización. Unas 185.000 personas se identifican como hablantes, con cifras crecientes desde los jardines de inmersión kōhanga reo hasta las escuelas kura kaupapa. Está muy emparentada con el maorí de las Islas Cook, el hawaiano, el tahitiano y el rapanui.
El maorí usa el orden verbo-sujeto-objeto, distingue el «nosotros» inclusivo del exclusivo (tātou frente a mātou) y tiene solo 15 fonemas: cinco vocales y diez consonantes, algo cómodo para un hispanohablante. Los verbos marcan tiempo y aspecto con partículas (i para el pasado, ka para el no pasado, e... ana para el progresivo).
