El letón (latviešu valoda) es, junto al lituano, una de las dos lenguas bálticas supervivientes de la familia indoeuropea. Lo hablan unos 1,5 millones de personas, casi todas en Letonia. Las lenguas bálticas no son eslavas, aunque la geografía a veces lleva a confusión.
